
When you are travelling in foreign country , you most important document is your passport, Loosing your passport is not good thing, You never wanna lose your passport. But in most unfortunate circumstances, what you can do if you loose your passport and what is the process of Re-issue of Lost Indian Passport in the USA. (for San Francisco )
There are two cases for re issue,
- you have enough time till your departure flight, In this case you will be issued a duplicate passport with the validity of 10 years.
- You do not have enough time for reissue of your passport, your flight is going to depart with 12 Hrs, In that case you will be issued an emergency certificate which is only valid till you reach India, Emergency certificate will expire after you reach India. You can apply for Emergency certificate here.
What will happen to the Visa on the passport ?
- It is suggested you have the photocopy of VISA and Passport in your phone and in cloud, Best to keep a copy in DigiLocker (Application is available on IOS and Android)
- Once you approach organization with the copy of Visa, Organization will most likely renew your Visa.
- if you have taken it from India, You can approach Organization in India with copy of visa
Process to apply for Re-issue of Lost Indian Passport in the USA
- File a police report
- Please get a police report filed at the nearest police station where you live or if you think you lost your passport. Generally, a police station on the campus of your University might also be more accessible and friendly. Always keep a copy of this report for your future records. Better scan it and save it.
- Contact the Indian Embassy , send the email with your query.
- Request Replacement of a Lost/Stolen Arrival/Departure Record (Form I-94) from State travel.
- You need to seek a replacement of a lost or stolen Form I-94. To file for a replacement I-94, see Application for Replacement/Initial Nonimmigrant Arrival-Departure Document at the DHS, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website and see Arrival-Departure Record at the DHS, Customs, and Border Protection (CBP) website.

Documents required for Re-issue of Lost Indian Passport in the USA
- A photocopy of the old passport is not mandatory when applying for a new passport in case of a lost/damaged/stolen passport.
- Annexure F
- Proof of Indian Nationality (One of following)
- First five and last 2 page copy
- Indian birth certificate
- Indian Photo ID card (Aadhar Card, Pan Card, DL)
- However, you will be required to provide the following details from your old passport:
- Passport number
- Date of issue
- Date of expiry
- Place of issue
